The Acanthus Name

Acanthus [uh-kan-thuhs] is a plant or shrub with ornately shaped leaves and a prominent stalk of white or purplish flowers when in bloom. The Acanthus leaf has been used as a architectural design motif from 430 BC on and is most recognized on the capital of the Corinthian Column.

Acanthus Cabinets History

In 1977, Daniel Steckline, owner of Acanthus Cabinets began his woodworking career as an apprentice making custom cabinetry for luxury private jets in Wichita, Kansas. The professionalism and preciseness of the aircraft industry became a constant theme in later work and is referred to often in the "Testimonials" section of this website.

After studying studio art and receiving a BA degree in Art History from UCSB, Daniel Steckline moved to the Bay Area and opened Daniel Steckline Cabinetry making high end cabinetry and furniture for the home.

In 2001 Acanthus Cabinets came to be when Daniel Steckline Cabinetry formally changed its name to better represent the quality of work they were producing. The Acanthus plant has stood the test of time as a symbol of beauty in all its two and three dimensional reincarnations in art and architecture. Acanthus Cabinets is proud to continue this 2,400 year tradition of beauty in design and craft.
